Center Manager
Dr. Yau Garba Abbas is a medical doctor and also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Vrije University Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He possesses 20 years’ experience as a clinician, public health specialist, and hospital administrator. He currently works as the Medical Director for General Hospital in Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa State in Nigeria. He also doubles as the Center Manager for the Sexual Assault Referral Center (SARC) in Jigawa State. His work with the Jigawa State SARC has led to budget allocation for the center from the state government and provision of free services to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Despite the challenges he faces, Dr. Abbas is passionate and committed to working to curb the scourge of GBV in his state and its environs.
Nigeria has made significant progress in addressing sexual and gender-based violence. COVID-19 will set us back—unless we take action.
