Media Advocacy Manager, Jhpiego Kenya
Irene Choge joined AFP partner Jhpiego Kenya as a Media Advocacy Manager. She has a background in education, health communication, and journalism. Irene has more than 8 years of experience in media broadcasting with a specialty in health, science and environment, governance, and humanitarian fields. Previously, she worked at The Nation Media Group worked as a senior reporter. Irene initiated the Nation Television (NTV) Health Assignment segment. This is a regular weekly feature segment that highlights unique health and development stories that influence decision-makers and impact people’s lives. Irene has held several positions in the media, rising through the ranks. She has received a wide collection of media awards including the “Storyteller of the Year (TV category)” at the Internews Story Festival as well as the “2nd Best in Health Reporting” category during the Kenya Media Council awards. AFP local partner Jhpiego through its Executive Management Team recently nominated her for the 120 under 40: The New Generation of Young Leaders in Family Planning. Irene has a passion for health and has enrolled to earn her master’s degree in public health. She brings to AFP strong media networks, invaluable skills, and a wealth of experience in using media to advance health, family planning, and development.
