Laura Brazee is the technical advisor for youth engagement with Plan International USA and manages Health Policy Plus’ intergenerational mentoring activity to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights advocacy for young people in Malawi. She brings 15 years of experience working with young people as partners and decision-makers to address the most pressing issues impacting youth in a variety of contexts. Laura specializes in positive youth development, meaningful youth engagement and building the capacity of young people to be advocates. She is focused on the intersection of youth engagement and gender equality, with expertise in building the capacity, systems and structures for organizations and institutions to create space for young people to engage in meaningful ways and take on leadership roles. Laura has been trained as a gender equality champion and also serves as the child and youth safeguarding focal point for Plan’s DC office. Laura provides technical support on and manages a diverse portfolio of youth-focused programs funded by the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), corporates partners, foundations and private donors. In her current role, Laura is leading Plan’s domestic youth strategy to engage young people in organizational governance, leadership capacity-building, programming, and advocacy with the U.S. government. Laura holds a M.A. in sustainable international development from The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
