REACHING HIGH PRIORITY POPULATIONS WITH THE COVID-19 VACCINE
20 Essential Resources
Details
COVID-19 Maternal Immunization Resource Library
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold and evolve, updated guidance is needed to sustain momentum towards global vaccination goals. A key part of this effort includes the urgent delivery of vaccines to high priority populations.
The WHO outlined priority populations in the WHO SAGE Roadmap for prioritizing uses of COVID-19 vaccines. Vaccinating these priority populations is a first step in reducing severe disease and death, protecting health systems, and ensuring equitable vaccine access. This collection of essential resources supports countries, implementers, decision-makers, and development partners in coordinating the delivery of vaccines to high-priority populations.
With an eye to the future and the next global vaccination effort, we hope this guidance and evidence of what has worked for the COVID-19 vaccine can prove useful in a variety of health emergency contexts.

About Knowledge SUCCESS
Knowledge SUCCESS (Strengthening Use, Capacity, Collaboration, Exchange, Synthesis, and Sharing) is a five-year (2019-2024) global project led by a consortium of partners and funded by USAID’s Office of Population and Reproductive Health to support learning, and create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange, within the family planning and reproductive health community. We use an intentional and systematic approach, called knowledge management, to help programs and organizations working in family planning and reproductive health collect knowledge and information, organize it, connect others to it, and make it easier for people to use.

SBC approaches can be effective ways to improve uptake of healthy behaviors among communities, and vaccination is no different. These SBC materials use clear and engaging communication of the facts about the COVID-19 vaccine and why it’s important for pregnant women. They aim to reduce stigma against the vaccine and improve public conception of it, making pregnant and lactating mothers more open to vaccination to protect their own health and that of their child.
This resource includes a compilation of SBC resources developed by different Breakthrough ACTION country programs. They include materials used for SBC campaigns in modes such as TV, audio (radio spots) and print materials (posters, leaflets, etc.) The SCB campaigns were designed specifically for pregnant women and nursing mothers hesitant to get the vaccine, but some resources could be used for other high priority audiences as well.

Understanding how various factors can influence how health workers in any given setting think about the vaccine, make decisions, and act upon them is important to applying the right solutions and approaches for the problem at hand. Users can use these resources to adapt and apply approaches for closing COVID-19 vaccination gaps across contexts and to other health behaviors.
Drawing on global insights from programmers, researchers, and policymakers, a new synthesis brief developed by Breakthrough ACTION illustrates the varied environmental influences on health workers’ vaccination decisions. It then provides a set of evidence-informed approaches and illustrative examples to support health worker uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine. A companion piece features more detailed design and implementation considerations for several co-designed and user-tested solutions to support COVID-19 vaccine uptake by health workers in multiple countries.

Challenges to improving vaccination among the elderly include feelings of ineligibility due to comorbidities or health conditions, not knowing how to access vaccine services, mobility-related limitations, dependence on family or companions, worry about vaccine side effects, and also hoax information circulating in the community. In order to support the achievement of increasing vaccination coverage in elderly communities, activities containing community engagement and involvement are needed. This handbook can be utilized by stakeholders, communication program managers, facilitators, as well as policymakers in the field of communication or other sectors as guidelines or standards for the messages around COVID-19 vaccination to be conveyed to the community.
NOTE: This resource is available in both Indesonian and English.
This book aims to provide implementation guidance to accelerate access for elderly to COVID-19 vaccination through Communications Campaign and Community involvement activity. This book specifically aims to: 1) Be a guide for preparing campaign and community involvement plans to increase the outreach of messages for elderly COVID-19 vaccination. 2) Coordinate important messages on COVID-19 vaccinations for the elderly as well COVID-19 preventive behavior. 3) Simplify vaccination messages to encourage the elderly to participate in COVID-19 vaccination programs.

Health workers are at an increased risk of exposure to some communicable diseases because of their contact with patients or infective material in their working environment. Protection of health workers through vaccination is therefore an important part of infection prevention and control. This guide will be useful for countries that do not yet have a policy and programme for vaccinating health workers in place, as well as for those seeking to expand or improve their existing health worker vaccination activities.
This implementation guidance summarizes current global recommendations and programmatic considerations for establishing and/or strengthening platforms for the vaccination of health workers. It is intended for policy decision-makers in ministries of health (MOHs) and ministries of employment and labor, immunization managers and managers of health facilities, professional associations of various groups of health workers, and organizations of workers and employers in the health sector.
