President, Girls Engages in Medicine and other Sciences (GEMS)

Boubacar Amadou Samiratou is president and co-founder of Girls Engaged in Medicine and Other Sciences (GEMS) in Niger. With a doctorate in medicine, this young project manager, feminist, activist and STEMinist (i.e. a feminist committed to defending the rights of women and girls for better access to science) was also a member of the Mandela Washington Fellow 2023 cohort, and winner of the Ouagadougou Women Leadership Accelerator OWLA. An ambassador for sexual and reproductive health, she is a member of Niger's community of practice on reproductive health, climate change and humanitarian action on behalf of GEMS. Samiratou is also one of the French-speaking HCD (Human Centered Design) ambassadors for the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young people in the region.
