Periods and Contraception - An Unheard Story

Did your period change when you started using contraceptives?

We’re inviting you to share your experience.

Knowledge SUCCESS and the Contraceptive-Induced Menstrual Changes Community of Practice are collecting stories to raise awareness about common menstrual changes experienced when using contraceptives (such as pills, injections, implants, and copper intrauterine devices).

We hope to spark conversations about contraceptive-induced menstrual changes among and between policymakers, educators, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and their clients.

Some examples of menstrual changes include: less, more, or paused bleeding, more or less cramping, changes in how blood looks and/or smells. There’s a lack of knowledge that these changes are common when using most forms of contraception.

By sharing your story, you can…

  • Help others understand that changes in their period with contraceptive use is normal.
  • Show how these changes can affect different individuals positively or negatively.
  • Educate health care providers and programs on how they can support individuals experiencing these changes.
  • Contribute to programs that are more responsive and empathetic to client needs and experiences related to menstrual changes.

You are invited to share a written story or audio recording of your experiences. Your participation can be anonymous. You will be given the option to provide demographic and contact information at the end of the form.

A select few of these stories will be turned into art pieces by global artists and displayed in a virtual gallery. Not all submissions will be selected for artistic representation, but every approved story contributes to our global awareness efforts.

Use the form below to submit your story. A French version of the form is also available.
