Reproductive health advocates in the Philippines faced a tough 14-year long battle to turn the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 into a landmark law in December 2012.
Marie Stopes Uganda’s Gulu Light Outreach provides free mobile clinics that engage Northern Ugandan communities on reproductive health. Using peer-to-peer influence and outreach in markets and community centers, the team educates young people on contraceptives. It aims to spur family planning and support a culture that prioritizes the futures of its youth and the sustainability of its environment.
Since 2017, the rapid influx of refugees to the Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh has put additional pressure on the local community’s health systems, including FP/RH services. Pathfinder International is one of the organizations that has responded to the humanitarian crisis. Likhaan is a non-government, nonprofit organization established in 1995 to respond to the sexual and reproductive health needs of women experiencing poverty. In particular, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to gain new insights into family planning and optimize decision-making can have a lasting impact on programs, services, and users. Current advances in AI are just the beginning. As these approaches and tools are refined, practitioners should not miss the opportunity to apply AI to expand the reach of family planning programs and strengthen their impact.
